There are plenty of ways to spend time in the world of RuneScape, but RuneScape: Dragonwilds is probably one of the more dangerous.
Jagex’s survival adventure has now left Early Access and arrived on Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, with Xbox Play Anywhere support and a £24.99 Standard Edition. It’s also a Day One Game Pass release for Ultimate, Premium and PC subscribers.
Dragonwilds entered Early Access on Steam back in April, where it has picked up Very Positive reviews, and we’ve followed its progress through both the announcement of its full console launch and the reveal of its physical editions.

A New Corner Of Gielinor
Dragonwilds heads to Ashenfall, a previously unexplored continent where dragons have awakened and wild magic is spilling across the fractured landscape.
You can venture through the world alone or team up with up to three other players, gathering resources, building shelters, crafting equipment and developing your skills along the way. There’s a familiar RuneScape flavour running through it all too, with quests, skill progression, creatures and lore helping to give this survival adventure its own identity.
And then there are the dragons. They are literally in the name.
The ultimate objective is to uncover the secrets of Ashenfall and eventually face the Dragon Queen. Getting there won’t be a case of simply marching towards the biggest monster on the map, though. You’ll need to improve your skills, prepare potions, craft better equipment and learn how to deal with the dangers waiting across the continent.
Magic Makes Survival Rather More Interesting
Ashenfall’s environment also gives Dragonwilds a rather unusual toolbox.
Magic can be used for far more than simply attacking enemies. A spectral axe can fell trees, spells can help you escape danger and resources can be manipulated in some decidedly strange ways. You can even conjure a tornado of fish from a lake or turn bones into peaches.
It’s a suitably chaotic approach to survival, making the world’s magic feel like another part of your toolkit rather than something reserved for major battles.
Familiar Faces And New Threats
Fans of RuneScape should also recognise some familiar names during their travels. Zogres and Black Knights return, while Garou joins the roster of creatures waiting to cause problems.
Combat and exploration are backed by a soundtrack combining reorchestrated RuneScape classics with brand-new music, helping Dragonwilds establish a connection to the wider RuneScape universe while taking things somewhere new.
The world is also designed around discovery. As you explore Ashenfall, you’ll gradually uncover why its magic is behaving so strangely and how that ties into the wider mystery surrounding the dragons.
The Deluxe Edition Adds A Little More Magic
The £24.99 / Game Pass Standard Edition is joined by a £33.49 Deluxe Edition, with the latter aimed at players who want some additional cosmetic and decorative extras.
The Deluxe Edition includes placeable decorations, pet beds and alternative cosmetics for craftable in-game gear, giving players a few more ways to customise their foothold in Ashenfall.
With Dragonwilds now moving beyond Early Access, Jagex is also continuing to position the game as something shaped alongside its community. Player feedback has already influenced its roadmap, including the earlier introduction of dedicated servers and new combat and quest content.
That makes the full launch feel more like the beginning of the next chapter than the end of development. Ashenfall is now open to a much wider audience, and with dragons, wild magic, survival and a rather familiar RuneScape spirit all thrown into the mix, there should be plenty of reasons to find out what lurks beyond the next hill.
