So, PlayStation announced just yesterday that they’re no longer publishing Hideo Kojima’s upcoming espionage adventure, Physint, instead, XBOX stepped in and is publishing both it and his XBOX-backed project, OD. As is the case, though, retired PS exec, Shuhei Yoshida, has commented on the news.
In the barest of bare, Yoshida notes on social media that this surprised him. While he doesn’t explicitly say that the Sony-Kojima Productions news is what surprised him, I doubt anyone will argue this is his way of commenting on the matter early.
Physint is Kojima’s spiritual successor to his beloved Metal Gear franchise announced back in 2024 built off of the DECIMA Engine. Speaking of DECIMA, as Respawn First points out, it’s not clear if Sony will continue to let the famed developer use the in-house engine or if the game is now having to start from scratch on a new engine.
