Best Adaptations in Marvel's Wolverine

The best adaptations in Marvel's Wolverine will be ones that improve your experience and make your adventure that bit smoother. Which ones suit you best will depend on how you’re choosing to approach the story, are you going slow and stealthy or going in claws-blazing? However, some are worth spending valuable AP on as a baseline. On that note, here are our picks for the best adaptations in Wolverine.

Best Adaptations in Wolverine

Below you can find some of the top picks for the best adaptations to spend AP on in Wolverine.

You'll need to collect AP to increase your 'Adaptation Level'. Each time you reach a new level, you’ll unlock another strand - which is the name of the spot you can apply an adaptation to. The more strands open, the more adaptations you can equip. Remember, you can gain AP by completing Nightmare Trials and by collecting Whiskey Bottles.

Also, you an unequip adaptations at any point and requip new ones as long as there's a slot available, so it's a good idea to experiment to find a combination that suits you.

Please Note: These adaptations are ones I've found most useful while playing through the story. These ones suit my preferred playstyle, and the ones you find best may be different - these are merely suggestions.

Healing Parry

Healing Parry will let you restore your Health by successfully parrying an enemy's attack. I'd recommend getting this adaptation as early as you possibly can because, like it or loathe it, you’re going to be parrying a lot throughout the story. From big bosses to hoards of Reavers, parrying is key to staying alive in almost every combat scenario. Also, the higher the difficulty level you’re set to, the more useful this will be as any chance to restore your Health will be crucial.

Extended Parry

Yes, this is another one around parrying but it's an important thing if you don't want to be dodging all the time. Parrying also, for what its worth, staggers enemies to make it easier to take them down - but sometimes the timing can be tricky to get right. Each enemy type has a unique rhythm to follow when it comes to parrying correctly. For example, dual-bladed Reavers have a completely different rhythm to the larger brute Reavers.

Extended Parry, as the name suggests, increases the window of time you need to do a parry in for it to be successful. This means that, even if your timing is slightly off what it should be, you’ve still got a decent chance to pull it off correctly.

Healing Dodge

No more parrying here for now, this one is all about dodging. As much as Wolverine can regenerate, if you get hit too much then it’s bye bye Logan (or more accurately you'll go back to the nearest checkpoint.) Anyway, to pull off combo attacks or survive boss battles, you’re going to need to dodge incoming attacks at some point.

If you're on a higher difficulty level, anything you can do to increase your health regeneration is worth equipping and that's exactly what Healing Dodge does. With this equipped, you will gain health while you’re dodging an incoming attack. As it’s something you’ll end up doing a lot of, this adaptation is worth having.

Enraging Barrage

Now, this one has made the list because 'Barrages' are the attack type I found myself using the most throughout the story and this adaptation lets you make the most of them. The Enraging Barrage adaptation allows you to build extra Rage while you’re dealing out Barrages.

I found this one particularly handy in the later stages of the game where enemies became tougher and there were more of them. This also helped me repeatedly reach Rage Tier 3 quickly and use combos with L1 and R1 to dish out violet Wolverine-esque endings to those to dared get in the way.

Enraged Charge

This is one of the mid to late-game adaptations you can access but it's one worth spending a valuable strand on. It unlocks at Adaptation Level 9. Enraged Charge has multiple effects revolving around your Rage Tiers (the little trio of bars beneath your health bar in the upper left corner of the screen):

  • In Rage Tier 2, the passive recharge rate of all Special Techniques is faster.
  • In Rage Tier 3, the recharge rate increases further.
Use this in Nightmare Trials! An extra tip from Marie

Nightmare Gauntlets make you face wave after wave of enemies to survive as long as you can, and the Enraged Charge adaptation with its increased charge rates will make this a bit easier. I reached Adamantium Level much faster in Gauntlets with this than I did without it.

Now, as a recap, Special Techniques are the special attacks you can get Logan to do once they recharge such as 'Knee Breaker'. These attacks will help you keep the toughest of enemies under control, and each of them packs a punch regardless of the ones you choose to equip. The catch is they need to recharge after being used, but that’s where Enraged Charge comes in.

It doesn't take a lot to get Logan to Rage Tier 2 and 3 when surrounded by enemies, especially if you have any other 'Enraged' adaptations equipped, so having an increased recharge rate will help you deal more damage that much faster.
