Publisher Kodansha and developer Mana have announced the art-focused adventure game CaTHaRSiS: The Last of Atelier for PC on Steam, set for release in 2026.
Players control an empty vessel with no memories or sense of identity. Accompanied by a wolf and an owl, the protagonist travels through a series of canvas-based environments while gradually recovering what they have lost.
Ten areas are planned, each drawing from notable works of art. Van Gogh’s section incorporates The Starry Night, Café Terrace at Night, and Sunflowers, moving between star-filled skies, fields of sunflowers, and a nighttime cafe.
Another area is based on Monet’s Woman with a Parasol, transforming its green meadow into a space players can run through freely. Klimt’s The Kiss serves as the basis for a gold-covered environment centered on the protagonist beginning to understand emotions and the concept of love. CaTHaRSiS turns the paintings into explorable 3D spaces.
The game is designed as a short experience comparable in length to a feature film. There are no game-over states or time limits either.
